Art has served as a way to communicate with the world about what matters to the artist. Whatever type of art we create affects the world an some small way. I believe all artist in their on artistic way makes a connection to the people around them, whether it is a chef, an interior decorator,or a graphic designer. Everyone wants to be heard and the artist wants to know what connections others are having with their artistic message.
As artist- we create art that tells a story, its our way of understanding our place in history. In my artwork I try to explain the feelings and connections I have in my life. I focus on appealing to the sense and translating feelings through photos, fouond objects, texture and color.
How Can You Make Connections with Your Artwork?
1. Go beyond the surface of your artwork- try to make emotional connections that create lasting and memorable experiences.
2.Learn to experiment with alternative approaches, materials and media. Try different artist tools, and surfaces that are not part of your typical artist way of creating art.
3. Allow the content of the work to drive the medium and the approach. Take a few minutes or days to think about what you want to say to the world. Take notes on what images or words come to mind. And then chose the medium that you feel suits the content the best.
4. I have said this before, and I am saying it again. Join forces with talented individuals in other disciplines to expand your range of knowledge and insight. Being part of an creative alliance only strengths your artistic ability. Maybe someone in your alliance can help you with a new technique or help you with the business of art. It is really important to surround yourself with other like minded people.
5. Always be on the hunt for new ideas. Fresh ideas allow you to move beyond the surfaces. Collect ideas in notebook and go back to them when you are searching for a new way to express your content.
6. Create a healthy balance between personal and commissioned work. Sometimes commissioned projects can become overwhelming and allow only a little bit of yourself to show through. Make sure to work on your own personal projects in order to grow and feel engaged.
Remember art has serve as a way to communicate to the world about historical events, personal life experiences and political statements. Take this week to think about what artistic connections you what to make with the world. And go out and make a few connections.
